Creating a Mood board for Your Space
Published: February 9th, 2021

There is no doubt that one of our most treasured artistic endeavours, for both
actual and perceived projects, is putting together a mood board
with different fabrics, hardware, surface elements, and design pieces.
The goal is to determine and collate all kinds of ideas and express our vision.
To help decide the direction that the project should take and if there is any
element that can be the pivotal point from which a concept can be
constructed. Sometimes it may only be to determine if all the elements work
together.
While designing, we believe that being creative is what gives the best results
rather than just following the rules. We go through a ton of samples, find a
common thread, explore colours, textures, patterns, feelings, emotions. We
play around with all these images on the board to create different
compositions that will tell the story that we want to express. We like to capture
the feelings as well as the visuals in our mood boards.
In order to create this collage of ideas, we collect samples of almost
everything like wood flooring, fabric swatches, paint etc. We take real life
pictures that might inspire us for future designs since we are surrounded with
decorating ideas as we go about our daily life.
So, in a nutshell, a mood board is kind of a focus point where we can explore,
refine, and order our thoughts so that we can reach the look that we are trying
to achieve. It also helps us to take a step back and see the bigger picture in
order to avoid mistakes that can be potentially costly down the road.
It is a process that one cannot learn just by reading. One needs to do it!
